After much trouble from Amazon, terminating with me canceling my order from them, I finally received a shiny new Canon PowerShot A80 digi cam! All credit must go to digital-cameras.com for delivering it in less than 24 hours from making the order, whereas the aforementioned company hadn’t managed it after nearly a month! Keep an eye on the photo galleries for some new pics soon!

Why is it that Hollywood seems intent at the moment to spew out sequel after sequel and remake, few of which ever live up to their forbears? The simple answer is money, but is this a deeper indication that creativity is running dry (in the west at least) or is this sort of pulp what people really want?
Interestingly enough no longer is the west the capital of cool. Bet you can’t guess where that title belongs to now? Sometimes it’s nice to know that your riding the wave! Comments welcome as ever

After looking at my top 5 films from last year I was trying to decide what my favourite film of all time was. Not an easy task when you think about it! After much deliberation it came down to The Matrix vs. Battle Royale. Both are brillient (yet very different) films in their own right, each making the more decerning viewer think about the philiophical and moral implications of what is portrayed on screen. If I were pushed to choose one I would have to go for Battle Royale simply because it is a relativly unknown film in the west and has never had a proper theatrical release over here (and probably never will) due to its content.
In short Battle Royale is the story of a highschool class in post-modern Japan who are taken from their normal lives, and are thrust into a military controlled island in which they are forced to kill their own friends in order to survive. The reasons for this I will leave to you to discover. The film is undoubtedly brutal but its violence is in no way glorified and highlights its futility.
For a far better and more in depth review see here and here (Warning: SPOILERS). N.B. I would not recommend this film for anyone under 18 or to those who watch MTV or any other rubbish like that.

I thought I’d take a break from all the tech stuff this week and take a look back at some of the best films of 2003. Although it was undoubtedly the ‘Year the Matrix’ (TM) there were still plenty of other crackers along the way. Unfortunately the Matrix became a victim of its own success with the ending to Revolutions putting a dampener on the whole affair. The one I never saw coming really was Kill Bill, which although isn’t everyones cup-of-tea, is stylistically brilliant.
Top 5 Films 2003
1. The Matrix Reloaded
2. Kill Bill (Volume 1)
3. Return of the King
4. 28 Days Later
5. The Animatrix (Not really a film per-say but still excellent)

You’re reading this so obviously the world didn’t end this year yet again. Pity. I was rather looking forward to the possibility of something out of the ordinary happening for a change! Luckily enough there are plenty of other ways we may meet our doom in the years to come
On a brighter note I’ve just about finished my php front end for bittorrent - all thats left to do is to make things look pretty and write some documentation before I release it. I’ve learnt more about linux/php/mysql in the last couple of days than I have done in a long time so I think its been worth it.
