Shocking images today have been received from those claiming to be holding Red Ted ransom for reasons currently unknown. RT, who had recently returned from a ‘peace’ conference in Tokyo, Japan, was in London promoting his latest blockbuster film “You Only Sniff Twice” when he was reportedly snatched by a gang of armed Sniffs. Even after killing two of his assailants with his highly advanced martial-arts skills he was unable to subdue them and his whereabouts are now unknown.

Demands for £6 million in cash have come from an individual know only to police as ‘Mr. X’. This mysterious character appears to have no former MO (Modus Operandi) any other motives aside from extortion are as yet unclear.

Possibly Mr. X… posing for an iPod advert perhaps?
We’ll keep you up-to-date with the news as we get it but so far the prognosis does not look good for raising such a huge sum so quickly. Will this be the end of Red Ted? Who knows, but he has come back from the edge of disaster on more than one occasion so we should never give up hope!

My rather nice new 19″ Neovo X-Series TFT screen arrived today! It’s a beautifully designed piece of kit with a proper glass front and a metallic body meaning it’s not likely to get damaged all that easily. Considering the amount of time I spend in from of my computer every day I think it’s worth having a decent screen which pleases the eye rather than hurting it!

Thought I might share a couple of cool photos sent to me by Nik yesterday taken in the fine city where we live:

The Forum - (c) Nik Howard 2004
The first was taken in the local millennium-esq (post-techno-cool!) library known as ‘The Forum‘. It’s actually a combination of three different photos photoshopped together using transparent layers to create the effect of the ghostly looking figures - pretty cleaver, even more so considering it was taken hand-held without a tripod!

Blurred Leaf - (c) Nik Howard 2004
This second photo has also been heavily modified by extracting the dark elements of the leaf and then motion-blurring the background - very artsy.
And if you thought that was cool… check out the zoomage on this gigapixel image! It reminds me of something out a modern spy film where the agent hooks into a satellite feed and homes in on a target with the image sharpening itself as the image is zoomed in.
BTW… Anyone know where the title for todays post comes from?

I discovered the hard way today that MySQL seriously doesn’t like it when you run out of disk space. One serious clear up and backup restoration later and the site is working again - so much for data integrity!
I’ve spent the last couple of days writing an essay on ‘Evaluating Performance’ for my Project Management course and let me be the first to say it isn’t the most riveting of subjects! At least I now know what to do if one of my employees goes nuts during their annual appraisal and tries to attack me with a biro…
I haven’t done a foreign film review for a while now so I plan to churn one out later this week, probably of the Ring 0 which I’ve been wanting to watch for a while.
Some links worth a quick click:

RT’s Japanese counterpart!
N.B. Red Ted is now back in the UK and he should be returning home after a short visit to London on Saturday. Apparently he’s brought visitors back over from Japan so I guess it could be interesting!

You may notice a few changes to the site today, mainly due to the fact that I’ve upgraded to the latest & greatest version of WordPress (1.5alpha) and have tweaked the graphics of the template a bit. The new version of WP feels extremely polished and the updated admin interface is excellent, I especially like the new ’static pages’ feature which will come in very handy. The change over has also allowed me to clear up the images and plugins folder making the whole directory structure a lot more tidy. If you notice anything broken please shout - I’ll be making a few more changes over the coming weeks so watch this space!
Visited my grandparents in London today which was good as I hadn’t seen them for quite a while. We went out for a really nice lunch in a restaurant and I had a very juicy steak and a rather evil ice-cream dessert!

On the journey back home I had a play with the manual settings on my camera and took a few interesting shots of the speeding traffic (I should hasten to add I was not driving at the time!!). Above is a small montage of some of them - I’ll add an album containing larger versions to the gallery some time in the next couple of days.
Update (04/01): Header images *should* now be random and the new photo gallery can be found here.
