"what the iPad and similar devices can do is only limited by the imaginations of the developers writing applications for them."

From a layman's perspective this appears true, but the reality is that the programmers are always limited by the hardware resources of any given system. The three main factors are speed (how many calculations/operations are needed to resize this bitmap in real-time?), memory (is there enough room for high restitution textures or will I have to sacrifice image quality?), and specifications (this hardware only supports 256 colors at once, I must make careful decisions about the pallet to achieve the look I want).

Sometimes what a programmer wants to accomplish isn't possible with the current hardware. So, either a creative alternative has to be found (this sound hardware only has 6 channels, but I can use spare CPU time to mix 4 additional channels in software), or the idea is abandoned (I'll have to make do with 6 only, since there is not enough spare processing power to mix the audio).

Hi David - I'm using a Panasonic GF2 with a 14mm pancake lens. It's a Micro Four Thirds system so really compact.

Love the pics as always David! I am curious what camera are you using? I love taking shots but I rarely get such clarity.

I'm coming to HK at the time of Tin Hau and would like to go to Yuen Long to watch.

Which streets are used for the procession and where is a good place to watch from.

Thank you

Dave.

The blog is still a mix of random stuff but mostly travel and design recently - whatever catches my imagination really! That house in Seoul is pretty much my dream (minus the green paint).

I just noticed now because I usually read through my RSS feed, but this blog has really taken a turn in design. I guess the current one reflects the title of this blog post! And that image of the Hanok house in Seoul, looks incredible.
