There was smoke for quite a while before a flame could be seen abouth the middle of the bus then it spread. If it had been petrol there would not have been the black smoke, it would just have erupted.That night I tried to count the passengers on 54 bus, somewhere between 120 and 150. All the busses that I know of in Chengdu run on CNG. Whatever started the Chengdu (and probably the other one too) it was not petrol.
